Diego Cortés-Arriagada received his B.S. degree from Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educacion (UMCE) in 2009. His Ph.D. was completed at Universidad de Santiago de Chile (USACH) in 2013 under the guidance of Dr. Gloria Cardenas-Jirón. His Ph.D. was focused on the computational studies of hybrid materials formed by the deposition of metal phthalocyanines onto graphene. From 2013–2017, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Theoretical Chemistry (QTC) of Professor Alejandro Toro-Labbe, where he performed computational research on adsorption properties of graphene-based materials for pollutant removal. He was also involved in theoretical studies of catalytic and photophysical properties of organometallic compounds. He joined the Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana (UTEM) in March 2017, where he is a current member of the Institutional Program for the Promotion of Research, Development, and Innovation (PIDi). He is also a member of the academic staff of Master and Doctorate programs at UTEM.
The research group of Dr. Cortés-Arriagada has published papers related to different topics of materials science. The published papers include both independent computational studies and collaborative developments with computational chemists and experimentalists. His research is currently supported by the ANID/FONDECYT, ANID/PCI, ANID/FONDEQUIP, and the Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana (Internal Competition for R & D & I or Creation 2018).
